5 Things to Do Before Fall in Your Treasure Valley Home
August in the Treasure Valley still feels very much like summer...but fall has a way of sneaking up on us.
Before the cooler temperatures arrive, this is a great time to take care of a few simple things around your home. Whether you live in Boise, Middleton, Meridian, Eagle, Star, Nampa, Caldwell, or somewhere in between, a little late-summer maintenance can make the transition into fall much easier.
Here are five things we recommend putting on your list.
1. Give Your HVAC System Some Attention
After working hard through an Idaho summer, your HVAC system deserves a little attention. Replace filters if needed and consider scheduling seasonal maintenance before you're relying on your heat every day.
It’s also a good time to check vents and make sure furniture or rugs aren't blocking airflow.
2. Take a Walk Around the Exterior
You don't need to be a home inspector to spot things that may need attention.
Walk around your home and look at gutters, downspouts, siding, exterior caulking, windows, and the roof from ground level. Catching a small maintenance item now is usually much easier than discovering it during cold or wet weather.
3. Check Your Sprinklers and Landscaping
Our Treasure Valley yards work hard during the summer.
Late summer is a good time to check sprinkler heads for leaks or damage, take note of landscaping that needs attention, and start thinking ahead to seasonal irrigation changes.
If you're new to Idaho, this is also a good reminder that fall home maintenance here looks a little different than it may have where you lived before.
4. Get the Garage Ready for a New Season
Garages tend to collect all the evidence of summer...bikes, camping gear, sports equipment, yard tools, and everything else.
A quick clean-out now can make room for the things you'll want easily accessible when cooler weather arrives. While you're at it, check weather stripping around your garage door and exterior doors.
5. Start Thinking About Your Fall Real Estate Plans
Home maintenance isn't the only thing worth thinking about before the season changes.
If you've been considering selling your Treasure Valley home, you don't necessarily need to wait until spring. Fall buyers may have different timelines and motivations, and the right time to list depends much more on your home, your goals, and current market conditions than the season alone.
And if you're thinking about buying, late summer is a great time to get clear on your priorities, financing, and preferred communities before beginning your search.
